Option 4: Calculated by
quantity from an array
With this option you can set up an array so that shipping is calculated on the basis of the
number of items ordered. For example; for the first item shipping might cost $10. For
the second to ninth items, $5 per item, and for more than ten items, free of charge. You
can set the bands where you want. |
Finally you can assign shipping to a maximum of five zones, for example; local, national,
international, the Moon, Mars, and so on.
This option can be used with up to 5 different zones
with different shipping charges within each zone. Zone one could be your town, zone 2 your
county, zone 3 your state, zone 4 the surrounding states and zone 5 all the rest of the
states.
There are many ways of setting this shipping option up. Be
creative until you get the results you want. |
Let's follow this example. We'll use Florida (local) as an
example for shipping. Our business is located in Miami Beach so we set up the first zone
for shipping within the state.
Our first product will have a minimum shipping charge of
$3.95 and each additional product will cost $1.00 to ship and 7 products or more have no
additional charges.
The second zone we'll use for shipping within the rest of
the US (national). Shipping cost is $4.95 for the first product and the same for
additional products and again for 7 or more, no additional charge.
International shipping is of course more expensive. To use
the first (local) zone as an example, the cart will use 3.95 for the base shipping rate
for the first product and will add $1.00 for each additional product ordered up to a
maximum of $8.95 shipping charge in Florida.
Continental maximum shipping will be $9.95 and International, $19.95.
Units in this case should not be confused with the hidden
field units (not needed for this option) as used elsewhere in sending shipping charges to
the cart. The qty tag is what counts. Consider each unit as shown below to be
equivalent to one product (qty="1").
